Intro: BMW has a local manufacturing presence since 1959. The Rosslyn plant is now the second-best vehicle manufacturing plant in the world according to a major US ratings survey!
Recent upgrades enable the plant to produce over 60,000 units a year, which will result in a substantial increase in BMW's export capacity.
Seventy-five percent of the 49 000 vehicles produced at the Rosslyn Plant during 2001 were destined for BMW customers in the US, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Australia. Almost 80% of this year's production of 55 000 units will be exported.
Staff employed at Rosslyn has grown by almost 900 between 1998 and 2001, which has led to the creation of over 18 000 downstream jobs within BMW’s South African supplier network.

Intro: BMW had a distinguished career with an Egyptian business man, Eng. H. Aboul Foutouh who also owned a Daewoo assembly plant . However in December, 2002 Al Fotouh was charged with numerous charges and his contract to assemble and distribute BMW products was not renewed for CY 2003.
In the spring of 2003 a new company took over manufacturing and distribution rights and BMW is now stronger than ever in Egypt.
